Overview
Explore the jungle-shrouded temples of Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom on a 2-day tour to admire the stunning Khmer Empire’s architecture, including the Bayon Temple, Bapoun, Terrace of the Elephants, Ta Promh, Bantaey Srey, Phnom Kulen, and more.
What to Expect
Discover the majestic temples of the Angkor Wat complex on a 2-day guided tour, with inclusive accommodation in Siem Reap. The tour takes in all the main highlights, including the Bayon Temple of Angkor Thom, site of the last capital of the Khmer Empire. Marvel at monuments covered by tangles of tree roots, and see where Khmer rulers would wait for their returning armies. Drive the rugged roads to Phnom Kulen holy mountain to dine by a refreshing waterfall, and more.
Day 1:
Start your tour at the South Gate entrance of Angkor Thom, before proceeding to the Bayon Temple (also known as the 4-Faced Temple), Bapoun Temple, and Terrace of the Elephant. Continue to Ta Promh Temple, built by King Jayavarman VII in 1186, and instantly recognizable from the blockbuster movie “Tomb Raider.”
After lunch at a local restaurant, explore the Angkor Wat Temple, built by King Suryavarman II in honor of the god Vishnu. The largest of all the temples, it is one of the most extraordinary structures in the world, and a prime example of the classical style of Khmer architecture.
Enjoy a buffet dinner in the evening, complete with Apsara Dance Show, before returning to your hotel for the night.
Day 2:
This morning, you will drive the rugged roads to the sacred mountain of Phnom Kulen, widely regarded as the birthplace of the Khmer Empire. Discover the largest reclining Buddha on the hilltop, as well as the Legar carvings of the 9th-century kings. Make your way through the jungle to the Phnom Kulen waterfall, where you will lunch against the backdrop of the cascades.
Continue to Bantaey Srey, a small temple with the finest carvings of all the Angkor monuments. En route back to Siem Reap, pass local villages where, time permitting, you can stop to watch and learn how sugar is produced from the sugar palm trees.
