What to Expect
Explore the mysterious monuments of the former capitals of the Khmer Empire on a 2-day express tour of Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom. Soak up the mystical mountain atmosphere in jungles of entangled roots. Then, cruise over Tonle Sap Lake to see typical stilt houses and floating villages.
Day 1:
Upon arrival in Siem Reap, you will be welcomed by your tour guide and transferred to your hotel for check-in before the start of your temples tour.
Begin at the South Gate of Angkor Thom, and visit the main temple of Bayon (4-Faced Temple), the last great temple built at the Angkor complex. See the Hindu temple of Phimeanakas, and experience close-up where the Angkor rulers watched their returning armies from the Terrace of the Elephants and Terrace of the Leper King.
Immerse yourself in the steamy environment of the jungle, where “Tomb Raider” was filmed. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant. Then, in the afternoon, visit the magnificent temple of Angkor Wat, the largest temple of the Angkor complex, entangled in thick Cambodian jungle, and draped in the roots of fig trees.
Day 2:
Depart north of Siem Reap to visit the citadel of Banteay Srei. Loosely translated as “Citadel of the Women,” the 10th-century temple was built when the Khmer Empire was gaining significant power, and it displays fine examples of classical Khmer art said to be the most intricate carvings of any Angkorian temple.
Drive back Ta Prohm for lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, you will explore Tonle Sap, the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia. Pass floating villages and typical stilt houses, and visit a small fish and crocodile farm to experience local life on the lake.
